Accutane Lawsuit: Jury awarded $25.16 million to Andrew McCarrell of Birmingham, Alabama.; Accutane caused inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the drug company failed to warn prescribing physicians.

Roche ordered to pay $18 million in NEW JERSEY Accutane bowel disease case.


Bloomberg News (6/29, Feeley) reported, “Roche Holding AG (ROG) must pay a total of $18 million in damages to two former users of its Accutane acne drug who blamed the medicine for their bowel disease, a New Jersey jury ruled.” The jury found that “Roche failed to properly warn Kathleen Rossitto and Riley Wilkinson that Accutane could cause inflammatory bowel disease.” The story noted that some earlier verdicts against Roche have been thrown out by appeals courts “including a 2007 award of $7 million to a Florida man,” and “a New Jersey appeals court also overturned a $10.5 million Accutane verdict on an evidentiary issue.”
