Many Pediatric Medical Devices Tested on Adults Instead of Children

A study published in Pediatric magazine revealed most medical devices for pediatric offices were actually initially tested on adults instead of children, according to a Reuters report.

This presents a potential problem, based on the findings of Thomas J. Hwang, one of the authors of the paper. Hwang noted that a product deemed safe for adults, may not be as risk-free for children. In the study, researchers evaluated 25 medical devices which received FDA approval for patients 21 years and younger, between 2008 and 2011.
